Do you supply satellite systems for Sky Digital in the Alicante area ? We do not seem to be able to find anyone here to help us get our English Channels!

Unfortunately we do not cover Alicante for Sky Digital Installations. We get many enquiries and also many reports of shoddy workmanship, so please be careful. Try to get a recommended company to help you with your installation, preferably a company who has been used by a neighbour or friend from your local area. You will pay later if you let just anyone undertake the work for you, there are many pitfalls where these Satellite Systems are concerned! If you get really stuck then we would be able to supply you with the Sky Digital Receiver and the Sky Digital Viewing Card via Mail Order, we do this for many clients who can not find a reputable company to help with their requirements. We even have some Sky Digital Clients outside of Spain, although we are not a Mail Order company we like to help out where we can, if I client finds himself without options. It is possible for us to recommend a local Spanish Company to install the correct antenna etc.

Good afternoon. I'm after some advice please.
 
We have bought an apartment in Duquesa, by Arenal 2000. Completion is due Jan 07.
 
From looking at your web site, it seems the only way I'm going to get UK Digital TV is through Sky. You are correct, the only way to pick up UK channels in Spain is via the Sky Digital Platform. However, you do not have to have a subscription to pick up BBC and ITV, these come Free To Air. Also included are many of the other Free-View channels and Radio Channels.
 
I do not use Sky here at home since I'm perfectly happy with Free-View together with it's radio stations. UK Free-View is not available in Spain as it is not receivable via Satellite. Sky Digital Free To Air is similar but does not have all channels of Free-View, although it does have most. Spanish Free-View is available but it only provides programs in Spanish Language.
 
Am I right in thinking Sky is just about the only option in Duquesa as I don't think I'm going to get Free-View there ? The Sky Digital Platform is the only option to view UK Channels in Spain.
 
If so, the package I'm looking at is basically all the BBC and ITV channels together with radio channels - what would you suggest ? As explained above the Digital Receiver alone (when connected to a suitable and correctly aligned dish) will pick up these Free-To-Air channels.

Also, the apartment is to be fitted with "parabolic antenna" whatever that means. A "Parabolic Antenna" is what you would refer to a Satellite Dish. In Spain this has to be much bigger than UK, and here on the South Coast we use between 1.3m and 1.8m dependant upon the application.

We have had a question today which we get asked a lot so I thought it beneficial to upload to the site for all your information. Broad spectrum questions about Sky Digital in Spain or Audio Visual Services in Spain will be added here on the Digital Future Message Board. My answer is in Red below.

Hello,
We are coming to live in Spain later this year and would like to watch UK channels and possibly Sky Digital when we settle in.
Can we bring our Sky Digibox and card from the UK ? We have Sky + currently with full Subscription but we are not sure if we will be needing this once we come permanently to Spain, we are hoping that we do not need to watch as much TV as the Climate is much better and we will not be having to hide from the Rain.... :-) The simple answer to this is YES, you can bring your Digital Receiver ! The point here is that only certain receivers work this far South in Spain, the tuners simply are not sensitive enough to pick up the weak signals that we pick up here from the Sky Digital Satellite. Sky + receivers are generally OK so it is certainly worthwhile bringing it with you so we can test it. Please bear in mind that the larger hard drive models of Sky + (80GB+) do not work very well this far south in Spain. Your viewing card for Sky Digital Subscription will be fine, but you must keep it registered to a UK address, and you must not tell them at Sky that you have taken the card out of the country, they will switch you off. If you needed to have a receiver upgrade because the Sky + Receiver did not work here then we can pair your existing Sky Card to the new Sky Digital Receiver that we would be able to supply and install for you. If you wanted to simply delete this Sky subscription that you have in the UK then please be aware that we always have Sky cards in stock for immediate activation onto any Sky Digital subscription package.

If we can bring our Digibox and card will you be able to set it up for us or do you only do complete installations. We are happy to undertake the installation of a clients own Sky Digital equipment in Spain, we often do this for clients that bring their own equipment over from another country.

Is is worthwhile bringing our dish from the UK ? I can not find much information about this on the internet, some people are saying a 2m plus size of dish, some are saying 1.2m.... I don´t know what to think ? Ours is pretty small, I think about 50cm ? ! ? Would this be right ? Do not bring your dish from the UK. It will never pick up the weak signals that we pick up from the Sky Digital Satellite here in Spain. You will need a minimum of a 1.3m dish here, and some clients opt for a 1.5m if they have the room. The dish also needs to be of "Efficient High Gain Pressing", all too many companies are providing similar size dishes to this but they are not of sufficient quality to pick up the weak signals we receive here in Spain.

We are not going to be bringing our Main TV from UK as it is so big and bulky, we would like a Plasma or LCD, can you help us with this ? We will bring our DVD player though ! We are main agents for Sony, Philips and Bose Audio Visual Equipment in Spain. We can supply and professionally install the full range of products from these manufacturers to your exacting specification. Sony or Philips should cover your requirements for Plasma and/or LCD installation, the ranges of both are tremendously vast and innovative.

We have a small LCD for the bedroom which we can bring with us but I have been told somewhere that it will not work in Spain because it is different electricity ? Can you advise on this please ? Is it the same for the DVD ! ? You can bring your LCD with you to Spain. LCD and Plasma screens in general have Multi-System Tuners so that they can be used throughout Europe with no problems. There is no major difference between the UK Electricity System and the Spanish Electricity System. It is true that some UK TVs will not work with Spanish Television System, but you are going to use a UK Spec Sky Digital Receiver which will work fine with all UK Spec TVs anyway. The problem would occur if you tried to use a Spanish Spec TV with a UK Spec Digital Receiver, although an LCD would be able to convert the Sound Frequency with its Multi-System Tuner.

We are trying to sort out the move for beginning of December, somewhere within the Malaga region, probably Marbella or Estepona as we like it in these areas. OUR new site is live. After a lot of preparation and effort we finally have uploaded the main core site in English and Spanish. We know there are some problems with the links and we welcome your comments, please e-mail us if you have anything valid to say.

In the future we will be adding various comments on this board, like FAQ or items that we feel may be of interest to you. Although most points will undoubtedly be about Sky Digital in Spain, there are sure to be many posts about Audio Visual in general and most likely non related issues as well. Even if you are just writing to let us know about a spelling mistake (there better not be any), we would love to hear from you. We may even put some "Satisfied Customers" letters on here to show how brilliant our staff actually are - you never know!
